Studying the names of God:
Jehovah Jireh, our provider. How many stories we could all tell about God's supernatural provision!
Jehovah Jireh, our provider. How many stories we could all tell about God's supernatural provision!
I'll never forget two of the times that God obviously demonstrated Himself as Jireh.
Ann (my first wife) and I were on staff of Campus Crusade for Christ, stationed with the Athletes in Action basketball team in Tulsa. Finances were extremely tight. I had to leave for a 10-day basketball trip and all we had was nine dollars. I took three and left six for Ann and our two toddler daughters. We prayed and trusted God for our provision.
The following day, I called Ann from Texas. "You won't believe what happened," was Ann's excited greeting. "A milk truck stopped at our apartment yesterday. The driver came to our door and told me he was informed to keep our refrigerator and shelves stocked with whatever we needed - all dairy products, plus many other items he carried on the truck." (Ann and I still have no idea of the identity of the donor.) Thank you, Jehovah, Jireh!
Another Jireh experience took place a few years later. A mid-life career change relocated me from basketball coaching into doctoral studies. Three part-time jobs and going to graduate school full time kept me busy, but the household wallet was empty.
Opening the mail one day we found a cashier's check for $500. It had a fictitious signature. The next day, the same thing happened. This time the check was for $250. The amounts were what we needed to make it over the hump. Years later, a friend told us that she had felt strongly impressed to send us those checks, though she had no idea that we were in dire financial need.
Thank you, Jehovah Jireh.
