Continuing our quest for knowing God more deeply, we examine names the Bible ascribes to God beginning today with:

Almighty - all powerful
Genesis 17:1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, "I am God Almighty; walk before me and be blameless."

Baali - my master, a symbolic name for Jehovah
Hosea 2:16 "In that day," declares the LORD, "you will call me 'my husband'; you will no longer call me 'my master.'

Elohim - God of Gods, creator; all compassing, self-sufficient, holds together all things, the One who stands by His creation and whose eye never leaves it. Breaking down the word Elohim: "El" means mighty and strong, "him" refers to three or more.
Matthew 19:26 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

Deuteronomy 32:39 "See now that I myself am He! There is no god besides me. I put to death and I bring to life, I have wounded and I will heal, and no one can deliver out of my hand.

Romans 11:36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

Deuteronomy 10:17 For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.

El Elyon - Sovereign ruler (unlimited control of), Most High, the final word, the final court of appeal.

Somehow God moves in and before and above the affairs of man for the accomplishment of His purpose. Those who yield can be instruments; those who rebel cannot thwart His purpose, except in their own lives."

Exodus 15:18 The LORD will reign for ever and ever."
1 Chronicles 29:12 Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.
1 Sam. 2:6-7 "The LORD brings death and makes alive; he brings down to the grave and raises up.The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts.

Daniel 4:35 All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: "What have you done?"
Matthew 10:29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father.
